Dia de Los Muertos Projects:
Day of the Dead is a very important holiday in Mexico. It's kinda like Halloween but it is much more spiritual. During this holiday families create altars to observe loved ones who passed away. During the celebration families will also go to the cemetery and provide offerings to their loved ones. This holiday has lots of symbolism of skulls, flowers and even a skeleton wearing a French hat which comes from historical roots of the French in Mexico. There are lots of intertwining traditions between Mexican culture and European culture in this holiday, which relates to Mexico and Europe's history and the fall of the Aztecs. In this project we acknowledge the Day of the Dead by creating an altar of our own much like ones that are created during this holiday to honor passed family members of our own.

Calavera Project:
The goal of this project was to create a poem that is ironic and or makes fun of something based on a stereotype or personality trait that the animal or person had and then make that the reason they are no longer living. The idea is that these poems are funny or convey a light message versus a more dramatic kind of poem you would normally associate with someone passing away. For this project I did my dog and I made fun of the fact that she always does funny things. The name calavera means skull which relates to the picture and artwork idea of the poems which I included in my drawing. Making this poem was hard because it took a lot of effort to understand and conjugate the Spanish words especially when it came to a word I have not learned yet.
Obituario Project:
During the Day of the Dead one of the major events that is celebrated is the altar, where families honor loved ones by placing an image of them on their altar. The altar is decorated with flowers, skulls, and even other things that bring significance to that family or person. In this assignment we created our own Day of the dead frame for the class's altar. We even created paper flowers to go with it! Each person in my class was tasked with finding a picture but also creating an obituary in Spanish to go with the picture. This piece was then placed on our class altar. I created an obituary for my dog who sadly passed away.
El Proyecto de Mi Inmigrante
The purpose of this project was to learn how to conjugate for the past tense in Spanish. We applied our learning of the two past tense conjugation forms imperfect and preterite in this project. We did this by writing a biography which had to be written and conjugated fully in Spanish. The biography we wrote for this project was about someone in our family who immigrated to the United States, this allowed us to connect with our family though our school work. For my biography I wrote about my Grandpa Les who immigrated from Australia for a job opportunity. I enjoyed learning about someone in my family and their life journey and travel to the United States. I learned a lot about writing Spanish and applying conjugation as well as important information about my grandfathers life. I will include a link below with my writing as well as a picture of the final product of my biography. The final product was the writing I did in Spanish about my immigrant pasted onto a painted canvas with pictures to create a more final product which is more exhibition worthy.
Receta Proyecto
The propose of this project was to learn how to use commands in Spanish. We also learned food words and how to order in Spanish when you go out to a restaurant. For this project I made a recipe fully in Spanish of a dish made in a Spanish speaking country. I choose Puerto Rico as the country that I would get a recipe from and I ended up choosing a cookie which is made as a Christmas tradition. The cookie is called a mantecadito. I feel good about how my project turned out. It was challenging for me to be able to use new (food) words while writing it but I feel good about how everything came together. Below is a link to my final recipe:
